Freeports - 2020 Consultation

A consultation process is considering the introduction of Freeports across the UK in 2021.

These Freeports will be located by airports, sea ports and rail ports
Businesses, Port Operators and Local Authorities will be required to bid to create a designated Freeport
Qualifying locations will benefit from reduced Tariffs and enhanced tax relief for a specific time period
Tax relief is likely to include improved rate for Structures and Buildings Allowances (currently 3%) and Enhanced Capital Allowances which may provide a 100% deduction in year 1.

Due diligence

We liaise with the client and their advisors to ensure that the capital allowances position is protected during the acquisition, disposal and leasing of property.

Initial reviews

We offer a free initial review to establish if a capital allowances opportunity exists. This review is carried out with minimal time and disruption to the client.

Negotiation with the tax authorities

We apply an enquiry mitigation strategy to all of our client work. Our experience and extensive knowledge of tax legislation and case law enables us to assist with potential HMRC enquiries.
